'Manda asked for a Christmas list to give my parents and grandparents,  so I went to Amazon as an easy default to find a handful of books I've been after but haven't bought/ downloaded yet...

Y'all know my track record for updating this place,  so this showing up late should come as no surprise.

Readers Digest version,  after reading about Tam and seeing Old NFO leading from the front,  Amanda and I wanted to help out too.  Tam and the rest of you mob are the primary reasons we don't post that much,  it's just more entertaining to read everyone else ( and I'm lazy).

So,  added to the raffle pot is a Savage 24 DL,  .22 mag /20 GA.  The gun is flawless.  It's lived in a safe for as long as I've owned it,  and as far as I can tell the previous owner  never shot it.  I've taken it out once,  just because I don't believe in owning guns I can't shoot ( barring family wallhangers )

Tickets are $25,  same formula as the rest,  just go put it in Tam's tip jar.

Little late in coming this year,  things have just been busy enough that we couldn't commit to the date until this point. 

This year's shoot is going to be smaller and more subdued, so if you plan to come out, let us know.  (Breda usually handles this,  but you can RSVP Amanda or myself  also)   We just need  a headcount. 

I wanted to do this later in the year to accommodate some of the folks coming from further out ( looking at you Bro )  But weather in the Buckeye being what it is later than Oct,  and my drill schedule being schizophrenic,  We can't swing it.

They say the most dangerous thing in the world is bored Marines,  this is us with a whole bunch of Red Solo Cups.  I figure the rest is self explanatory.

Funny stuff.  They give us a 72 with nothing else better to do than drink and watch movies.  Smallish wonder we haven't burned the place down.

Blog neglect

I keep saying I'll keep up with this, then it fails to happen.  Being in the schoolhouse here doesn't help either.  We're doing like 4 Cisco certs in as many months.  I'm expected to be done with my CCNA, A+,  and I forget the other cert in under 120 days.  Much cramming going on. 

So anyway,  I don't have a MASTERFUL April fools gag like my brother from another mother Jay G ,  But the tilecrawlers over at BEQ (people that manage the barracks) got a fast one in on us.  It was Thursday afternoon.  The day prior, we played musical rooms, and everyone had to move.  So by that point we'd all just started to get things unpacked and settled in.  The whole process is a royal PITA, and everyone was still pissed off about it. ( I had to pack all of my shit and move a whole 6 doors down, gay)

 So it's the day after,  and we all had to be outside of the room to sign for it after lunch ( basically,  you tell them whats wrong with it, get accountability for who lives there, and sign off)  So as we're waiting for the NCO to come by with clipboard,  the BEQ manager herself comes by and says "hope y'all didn't get too comfortable,  because you're moving again in 30 min".  (This is greeted with a loud, pissed off chorus of profanity and annoyed Marines)  Fuck us, pretty much.  We wait by the hatch for the BEQ Sgt, and as she hits each room, she says (quietly, so not to warn the rest) " I'm not here this weekend to get you, so April fools!". 

She got us good :P

 

Hiphop music

Why do fans of this garbage feel the need to blast it everywhere they go?  I'm in a room full of computers, all the guys here are checking email or messing with facebook, and there's one asshole that feels the need to blast that shit from his phone to an otherwise quite room.  If I didn't have a headache already,  I'd play country loud as a could to make the point, but it just doesn't seem worth it some times.

Reports of my demise have been greatly exaggerated....

I'm back, finally.  Past few months have been busy and interesting.


29 Stumps-Yep, this place DOES suck as bad as everyone says.  There's very little to do when you have no transportation other than walking, and really, it's in the middle of the fucking desert,so that limits your options quite a bit.  On the bright side,  it's spring here, and the weather is absolutely gorgeous.  No humidity,  70's during the day, 40's at night,  which really beats the hell out of the Ohio winter I'm used to (snow,rain and generally disgusting sloppy weather).

There's also jack shit to do, and most of that costs money I don't want to spend.  It's pretty much wander the PX, work out, surf the net on the few free wifi spots there are, and sleep.  Bravo Co. isn't allowed to have vehicles and we have to take a "driver safety" class before we're allowed to rent cars (bullshit).  This would be an awesome place to have a bike, but those are verboten to any non permanent personnel (BULLSHIT!).  So, exploring the nearby stuff and national parks is also out for now.

Rant off,  that's my status update,  seems like it just turned into a me bitching session, but that's pretty much all I've got right now.  On the plus side,  I've got all kinds of free time for reading and blogging now,  so watch this space.

PS-  Reading material bleg.  Trying to decide where to start reading.  You folks are the most well read group I know,  got any suggestions?  I've read a bit of Terry Pratchett, so I'm thinking about reading through the Diskworld series,  any other must reads?
